Romantasy
Fantasy worlds with romance at their beating heart. Epic magic, chosen ones, fated mates, and love stories that span kingdoms.
Essential Romantasy
The defining series: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas essentially created the modern romantasy market. If you're new to the genre, start there — it's accessible, propulsive, and the magic system is genuinely inventive.
For darker romantasy: Jennifer L. Armentrout's From Blood and Ash leans harder into fantasy world-building and a more intense emotional core. The tension is exceptional.
For epic scope: Maas's Crescent City series and Throne of Glass are both worth reading after ACOTAR. The world-building deepens considerably across her catalogue.
For something different: Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb shows how romance craft can elevate fantasy. Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series is another excellent crossover point.
